Sourcing note: This page is built from the official 1.0 release announcement on the Steam news feed for AppID 1465470 and the community wiki on wiki.gg. The wiki does not yet have a dedicated article on Sandbox 2.0; the announcement is the only authoritative source at present.

What the developer has said

Sandbox 2.0 is announced in its own section. The complete developer statement on it is short and worth quoting in full:

“You can now choose your starting position on the Moon, with varied resource compositions. New Custom Game settings have been added, as well as seeds for settings and starting generation. You can now fine-tune the game to your preferences even further.”

That paragraph yields four concrete claims, all CONFIRMED by the announcement:

  1. Starting position is now selectable. Pre-1.0 Sandbox placed you at a fixed point.
  2. Resource composition varies by position. Different starting spots have different mineral mixes.
  3. Custom Game settings have been expanded. The number and content of new settings is not specified.
  4. Seeds exist for both settings and starting generation. A seed reproduces a specific start, given the same settings.

The seeds mechanism is the most concrete player-facing feature. With a known seed and a known settings profile, two players can start on the same world. The announcement does not publish a list of valid seeds or a seed-string format.

Four new Sandbox maps

A separate section in the same announcement names the new maps:

“4 new maps (landscapes, craters) have been added for Sandbox mode.”

The developer does not publish map names, sizes, or starting-resource profiles. The four maps are illustrated with four official screenshots, but the screenshots are not captioned with map names in the announcement text. Treat the count as confirmed (4) and any further detail as unverified.

How this fits the rest of 1.0

The 1.0 release layered a number of construction tools together. Sandbox 2.0 sits underneath them — it controls the world the player starts in, while Planning Mode and roads control how the player builds inside it. The developer does not state a direct interaction between Sandbox 2.0 starting positions and any specific building module.

There is also no claim in the announcement that Sandbox 2.0 unlocks new modules, new recipes, or new resources. The new things in 1.0 that affect what you can build are listed in other sections (Planning Mode, roads, the Anti-Meteorite Laser Cannon, the new Shower/Toilet module, the Training Center).

What this page does not claim

  • No list of map names. The announcement gives a count of 4 and visual references via four screenshots, but does not name them.
  • No published per-map resource profile. Which starting composition corresponds to which map is not stated.
  • No published list of new Custom Game settings. The announcement says they exist but does not enumerate them.
  • No published seed-string format. The mechanism exists; the syntax does not.
  • No published interaction with the Story Campaign. Sandbox 2.0 is announced as a Sandbox-mode feature; the Campaign is announced separately.
