The Crust 1.0 Roads Guide: Truck Routing & Logistics
Roads and parking are a new logistics layer in The Crust 1.0. Trucks use shortest-path routing, can split across multiple trips, and the road system combines with Planning Mode for factory layout.

Sourcing note: This page is built from the official 1.0 release announcement on the Steam news feed for AppID 1465470. The community wiki does not yet have a Roads article as of its last edit on 2026-09-06; that gap is also documented.
What the developer has said about roads
The 1.0 announcement introduces the road tool under the Roads section. The key developer statements, all CONFIRMED by the announcement text:
“Trucks now use the shortest path along the road network to deliver resources.”
“If there is not enough room in a single truck, the system will split the load across several trucks or several trips.”
“Combined with the new roads, this tool [Planning Mode] has made building in The Crust even more convenient and engaging.”
The phrasing is short, but it pins down three concrete behaviours:
- Roads are a placement layer: you lay road tiles across terrain, then trucks route along them.
- Routing is automated: trucks pick the shortest path through the road network, not a hand-set destination.
- Load splitting is automatic: when one truck cannot carry the full delivery, the engine either dispatches more trucks or makes more trips.
How roads combine with Planning Mode
The announcement places the Roads section directly after Planning Mode and frames them as a pair. The exact sentence is:
“Combined with the new roads, this tool has made building in The Crust even more convenient and engaging.”
That is the only documented relationship. There is no claim that Planning Mode plans roads directly, and the wiki does not list a road-planning tool. The reasonable read is that the two layers coexist: Planning Mode lays out modules and conveyors as construction ghosts, and the road system handles truck routing on top of the eventual committed layout. If you have observed a more specific interaction between the two in-game, the developer has not stated it.
What the community wiki does and does not yet cover
As of the most recent wiki edit on 2026-09-06 — four days before 1.0 — the wiki had no Roads article. The Buildings_(list) page does not list a road module either. The 1.0 announcement’s official screenshots show road tiles rendered in red on terrain, but the announcement does not publish build-cost or routing-rule numbers.
This is the same pattern that Planning Mode hits: the wiki was effectively frozen at the end of EA, so 1.0 mechanics arrive on the wiki with a delay. Until the wiki has an article, the announcement text is the only authoritative source for road behaviour.
What this page does not claim
- No published build cost for a road tile. The announcement does not list construction materials.
- No published parking-cap or truck-cap figure. The announcement mentions parking but does not say how many trucks a parking area supports or how many trucks a base can run.
- No published speed or throughput number for trucks. The announcement describes routing and load splitting qualitatively.
- No documented interaction with Power or CPU. Whether road tiles count toward CPU budgets is not stated.
- No documented interaction with the Multi-Regolith Refinery or any specific production building. The wiki flags the doubled-output column of the Multi-Regolith Refinery as possibly bugged, but the announcement does not link that to roads.

Blueprint FAQs
Do trucks use shortest-path routing in 1.0? +
Yes. The 1.0 announcement explicitly says trucks now use the shortest path along the road network to deliver resources.
Can one truck split a delivery across several trips? +
Yes. When there is not enough room in a single truck, the announcement says the system will split the load across several trucks or several trips.
Does Planning Mode plan roads? +
Not directly. The 1.0 announcement pairs the two features in the same paragraph and calls them complementary, but it does not say Planning Mode plans roads and the community wiki does not list a road-planning tool.
